my prayers to the fall grass // the fall grass responds to me

i look to you and worship

how you bloom equally in

lush, flowery gardens and

barren, black dirt. where you choose

to bless, your green redeems earth’s

past scars, pains, history.

can you redeem my fear, too?

are you weary and afraid?

i invite you, lay on me

your burdens, and you may rest.

do you ever worry, if

this eternal green-brown-green

cycle is not eternal?

when i die, is there a spring

resurrection awaiting?

i see your colors fading—

how do you remain faithful?

there is a time for every

thing. a time to fade, a time

to bloom— to be born, to die.

please tell me, do you also tire

of enduring life’s winters?

i’m afraid that this time, i

may not see spring. will you keep

me, as you have in countless

fall-to-winters past? will you

let me join you, should i pass?

i long for your time to be

with me. until then, rest in

spring’s promise: new green, new life.
